This morning I woke up, and was SUPER HUNGRY!

Thankfully, my twinnie had left for me some of her MOST DELICIOUS, SUPER YUMMY, Ham and Cheese Quiche!

I also realized that I missed my 25th week of Charlie's pregnancy photo.  So, at 25 weeks, 3 days...here we are!

Free Re-Purposed Sewn Baby Legs Tutorial (NON SOCK VERSION) YAY!

 

Today, after a weeks hiatus, I am again taking part in the Sewing Bee!  I am also sharing my newest tutorial with my blogger friends!!!

So, today, I had a long morning waiting for my car to be worked on, but I had a nice time with my husband.  YIPPEE!  $289.12 later, I came home thoroughly exhausted, but ready to craft!  It is Sewing Bee Thursday RIGHT?

So, I have had a stack of maternity shirts from 7 years ago when I was pregnant with Sam.  The ones pictured below are in various states of unwearable...you know...A stain here, a rip there, a BIT TOO TIGHT EVERYWHERE

 

So, I decided to take a chance and make a hat...inspired by my sisters post at Happiness Comes:

EPIC FAIL # 1

A poorly constructed and executed touque modeled after the super cute one on top of it.  SAD isn't it?

Ok...try try try again! RIGHT?

EPIC FAIL # 2

An even more poorly constructed pair of baby mittens.  Laughing yet???

(notice I did not even finish the forefront one?) YUP...SAD again!

So, not to be one up'ed by my now in hysterics sewing machine, I sat down and set to work coming up with a new pattern.

Of course we have all seen those baby legs made out of socks.  Cute right?  I know!  

So, I barely have a matching pair of socks for my own  feet, let alone a pair I want to convert into baby legs.  And I will be damned if I am going to go out and buy a pair of socks just to cut up and make baby legs with.  CHEAHP'O, I know! 

You know what I did have though?  2 shirts with interlock knit sleeved old maternity shirts that would be perfect for some little Charlie baby legs.  

Tutorial:

Begin by lying your shirt down WRONG SIDE OUT and folding in HALF so the sleeves line up on top of each other

Then cut out the baby legs along the folded (non-seamed side of the sleeve, as shown)

 

 SIZE NOTE: I cut these baby legs with 2 inch width on the bottom of the sleeve (bottom of this picture), and 2 1/2 inch width at the top of the baby legs (top of the picture), and they are 9 inches long)

CAN BE ANY SIZE YOU CHOOSE

Sew along the raw edge of the length of the leg, using a zig zag stitch, and a 1/8 inch seam allowance. 

BEGIN AT THE SEAMED EDGE of the LEG!

See? Easy right?

Now, fold the raw edge over 1/3 inch with the legs STILL wrong side out

Then fold over again (pin here if desired)

Sew with regular straight stitch along the edge of the fold (about 1/4inch from the inside edge) as shown

 

Trim strings, and iron if desired

Make a whole bunch, and enjoy the ease!  Re-purposed, Re-cycled old shirts made into thrifty super cute baby legs!

Sewing Bee Week 3!

Today, I am again taking part in Julia's Sewing Bee!  I encourage you all to pop over to her site and join in!

  Today I decided to whip up some PRECIOUS sewn baby pants for Charlie.  Sized 0-3 and 3-6 months (2 of each)

I cut out 4 pairs 

(well 5, but one I screwed up the pattern on...DRAT!)

 

Sewed up each pair (took about 8-10 minutes each pair...I SWEAR)!

 

Made sure they matched up to their original size template

Then I swear...I just sat and ooohhhhh'ed at my new little pants, and pictured Charlie wiggling around in them.  I am so glad I know how to sew for this baby!

This pattern is the brain child of my sister Julia from 1 year ago She used to make the CUTEST pants that we sold in our shop.

Charlies' Closet

Sewing Bee Week 2!

In honor of Julia's Sewing Bee (see adorable button at right), it is crafting day for me!

I had cut out some bibs, burpies, and changing mats for Charlie last week in the hopes that I would be able to get to them this week.

GUESS WHAT?

I DID!

I lay them all out on the table and set to work.  It was certainly not as many as I am used to making, but a nice assortment for the little lad!

There was a lot of fluff everywhere, including on Charlie's growing home

Then I sewed my little hands off, and HAD A BLAST!

I made eight burpies

Six matching bibs

(pattern found in our shop)

And two travel changing pads to match last weeks project...the diaper bag

Ice Day!

Today we got a lovely robotic voice mail message from our school district saying that school was delayed for 2 hours due to ice on the roads. 

Then 1 1/2 hrs later another harmonious message saying SCHOOL WAS CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Left on the table were the bags packed, until the next day!

What?  I get to stay snuggled up in bed?  Wait, we get to hang out all day with Julia, and Jay, and the Boys? Wait...WE SHOULD CELEBRATE!

I let the boys do whatever they liked, which entailed a LOT of watching wrestling on our TV, and playing a game.  

Whipped out my new griddle out of the box, and Sam and I made some super yummy pancakes

Slathered them in butter and syrup (imitation of course)...

Julia kindly took a 21 week belly shot of me ;)

And it is only 10:22 AM!  I have a potatoes, and carrots in the crockpot for dinner with some beef, and have the best day lined up!  YIPPY SKIPPY!

Happy First Sewing Bee

Today, I am very happy to announce that I am taking part in my sisters web wide sewing bee every Thursday!

She rocks!

Since finding out that Charlie is on the way, I decided that I would make some little boy things.  The first thing I desperately wanted to make was a diaper bag.  I wanted something simple, and sturdy, roomy, and without Winnie the Pooh, Bears, or Sparkles all over it.  I wanted something shall we say...ME

So, after perusing the net for patterns I came up empty handed, and since I CAN NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND A PATTERN from say Simplicity, McCalls etc, I thought Hell, I can make this on my own. 

 You see, I have made close to 50 plus bags in the past, when Julia and I had our traveling farmers market store, and know my way around a bag.  I can pretty much look at a bag, and know how to make it.  So, I looked for inspiration, I found it here!

It also has inner pockets!  Never done those before, but I decided to give it a go!

So, I washed my fabrics of choice, and bought some heavy duty interfacing.  Oh yeah, never used that before either, but I wanted a bag to shall we say...Stand on it's own!

Then I needed a size template.  This bag I bought a few years ago, and I love it, but I HATE THE OVER FLAP!  I want something I can get in and out of, and not have to flip a flap.  LAZY~huh?

 

Then I cut out the interfacing about 1 1/2 in bigger than the bag template (14 in. long X 18 in. wide).  I was going to turn this into a pattern / tutorial for our shop, but the light did not cooperate, and mama lost her ambition.  Oh well.

So, I figured out how to make pockets in the lining. I made 3 on each side of the lining, and they are 10 inches deep.  

Then I put the bag together, and I tell you what...I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!

Yes, I have a few flaws in the bag, but over all it is lovely!

I love the colors I chose, and I love how the size is perfect for a diaper bag!
